Sustainability

The masterplan for the North Red Lodge development recognises that the climate is changing and includes a range of sustainable design measures to be considered.

These include:

  • Energy efficiencies
  • Sustainable materials
  • Water conservation and efficiencies
  • Waste minimisation
  • Promotion of healthy communities
  • Promotion of sustainable transport

A mixed-use local centre, accessible green spaces, employment opportunities and a range of house types, in addition to the existing primary school, will provide the infrastructure that helps to create a vibrant and connected, sustainable community. The proximity of the open spaces will enable existing and future Red Lodge residents to enjoy a range of leisure activities, which can contribute to a healthier lifestyle and improved well-being.

Building sustainable homes

Design measures to be considered to reduce carbon emissions and provide energy efficient new homes and buildings at North Red Lodge include:

  • A fabric first approach to design and construction
  • The use of renewable and low carbon technologies
  • Optimisation of dwelling orientation aided by both good passive solar and thermal design
  • The use of highly rated homes appliances (where fitted) and low energy lighting

Sustainable building materials will be used, with all materials achieving a Green Guide rating of A-C (on a scale from A+ to E, with A+ rated specifications having the lowest overall environmental impact).

The new homes and buildings at North Red Lodge will include water efficient fixtures and fittings to reduce water use and achieve the water consumption rate of 110 litres per person per day that the Council’s Local Plan policy requires.

An Energy Statement, setting out the details of the proposed energy strategy will be submitted with a future planning application.

Electric vehicle charging infrastructure will be provided in new homes and for employment uses to encourage the use of low carbon transport.
